Thorn Riga
Thorn rigas have a GRP canopy, and a polycarbonate bowl. They were not very popular as other lanterns, such as the beta 5, arc 80, Wrtl 2600 made them not very popular.
Tesco car park in egham, Surrey
This thorn Riga is in the Tesco car park in EGHAM, Surrey. It is on a sleeved concrete column.
Staines, Surrey
This thorn riga is mounted on a very short column, probably 3 meters tall. It had a completely blown SON-T lamp in it. The lamp is completely black. It is interesting that the mains coming into the lantern (it could be power going out) is coming out of the side of the lantern in SWA (steel wire armoured) cable.
Here are some better pictures of this thorn Riga.
Here is the blown SON-T lamp. It looks like the arc-tube has leaked.
I came back to see this lantern in January 2025, and the blackened lamp has now been replaced, but they used a household LED lamp instead of a SON lamp!
Lido road, Guildford
This thorn Riga is on lido road in Guildford, Surrey. It runs on a SON-T lamp.
The second column on lido road has lost its lantern completely! The column door has also come off the column, and it looks like the column has been crashed into.
