PHILIPS SGS203

Philips SGS203s are a lantern with a metal base, and a GRP canopy. As most of them are old, the GRP is usually covered in lichen, and the GRP is shedding fibres.

There is also a 35w SOX version of the SGS203, called the Philips XGS203, but those are rare. Most of them run on a SON lamp.

Homebase and halfords car park, Staines

These Philips SGS203s are in the Homebase and halfords car park in Staines. Sadly, a few of them are cobbed with a LED COB lamp, but others still run on a SON lamp.

These didn’t work a while ago, but the controller was probably broken, however, they now work again and they all dayburn. They are on a green CU column, with the Most bizarre looking bracket. These also have a badly yellowed bowl. A fun fact about the Homebase and Halfords car park is that because there is a Halfords there, whenever I go to Homebase or Halfords, I have a look in the car park for old car light bulbs! I have actually found quite a few in there!

A single-armed column

I took some pictures of the same Philips SGS203s in January 2025

One of these has a LED COB lamp in it

One lantern on this column has a LED COB lamp in it, but on the other lantern, the canopy has been removed and a LED floodlight has been attached to the inside of the lantern.
